Gamestation Store Branding

Gamestation Store Branding

A shining light in the gaming high street.

Competition amongst high street retailers is very high. The re-branding process for Gamestation, back in 2002, also provided me (as Creative Director/owner of incumbent agency), a pretty stiff challenge when we were thrown into a pitch situation against one of the North’s leading creative agencies.

This intense creative process, not only challenged and improved me as a designer, it also led to the development of a brand that was to make Gamestation the UK’s second-largest games console store network.

The second-phase of the brand development was to carry through the ultra modern new look with a dynamic new store design. What followed was to be a template for all 60+ branches nationwide and an identity that helped Gamestation make major strides forward on the high street as well as within the industry. The stores were rewarded by picking up the award for Best Retailer Interior from leading industry magazine MCV.

During the following 12 months Gamestation grew to over 200 outlets before being acquired by Blockbuster’s parent company Viacom.

A fantastic outcome for the owners of Gamestation and a huge pat on the back for myself, my business partner and agency that helped them make the leap from backstreet, second-hand game store to multi-national gaming giant.
